Filipino millionaires that are self-made have put in a lot of labor, work harder. They arrive sooner, put forth more effort, and remain later. They gain a reputation for being some of the most diligent Filipinos in their professions. And everyone is aware of it.
The harder I work, the luckier I get.
—JAMES THURBER
40 PLUS FORMULA
Use the “40 Plus” formula often. According to this theory, 40 hours a week of work are necessary for survival, and anything above that is necessary for success. Everything you will ever accomplish if you only put in 40 hours a week (the typical workweek today is closer to 35 hours).
You’ll never succeed. You’ll never achieve significant financial success. Your coworkers will never hold you in high regard or respect. Doing the standard 40-hour workweek will ensure that you are constantly average.
WORK LONGER AND WORK HARDER
But, each hour you work in excess of 40 is an investment in your future. In fact, by examining how many hours above 40 you put in each week, you can predict with astonishing accuracy where you will be in five years. There simply isn’t a replacement for long days and a lot of effort.
In the Philippines, self-made millionaires put in 59 hours a week on average. Particularly early in their careers, many of them put in 70 or 80 hours per week. Instead of working five days a week, they typically work six, and they also put in greater hours.
You can reach a self-made Filipino millionaire by calling the office both before and after regular business hours. When the employees, or “nine-to-fivers,” arrive and depart, the self-made Filipino millionaire is still present.
BAWAL ANG “MARITES” AT WORK
The trick is to work continuously throughout the day. Don’t squander time while working. Put your head down and start working as soon as you arrive early. Say “I have to get back to work!” when people approach you and ask to speak.”
Do not read the newspaper, call your pals, drop off your dry cleaning, or mingle with your coworkers. Work continuously while employed.
Decide today to earn the reputation of being the employee who works the hardest at your organization. More quickly than nearly anything else you can do, this will draw the attention of those who can aid you.
BE A MILLIONAIRE, JUST WORK HARDER
Action point, kabayan. Develop a strategy right away to extend the number of hours you put in each day. Decide to arrive at work an hour earlier to start the day off well. Work after lunch when everyone has left. To catch up, stay an extra hour.
By using this method alone, you can double your output while only lengthening your day by two hours.
