New year means setting new objectives and making changes. Have you made a list of yours? The question is are you a Goal Keeper or a Goal Getter?
A new year is supposed to provide you a fresh start. Some of us, however, are unsure about how or where to begin because we failed repeatedly in 2022, or even in the years prior.
So how exactly do we approach this?
Consider the actions you took or omitted to take that may have contributed to some of your failures from the previous year.
Did you not make a plan for the year?
Did you set so many objectives that you quickly became overwhelmed?
Did you follow your plans so closely that there was no longer any room for flexibility, which is why you were burned?
Did you get out to a good start but struggle when something big happened that changed your life? It will be easier for us to succeed if we are aware of our past errors or weaknesses.
I urge you to give these a try this year.
1. CLEARLY DEFINE YOUR OBJECTIVES
Many of us spend the most of each year without any or any specific goals. It will be challenging to hit your objective if you are uncertain of what you are aiming for. You can take many different paths without getting anywhere.
The greatest time to start creating objectives is right now if you haven’t already. When making objectives, keep in mind these seven fundamental life areas: relationships, self-improvement, finances, career, leisure, spiritual and health (physical and mental).
Your objectives must be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time- bound).
PLAN OF ACTION:
Write down three to five goals for each area of your life on a piece of paper or in an online notepad. (For instance, in a relationship, I meet up with my best pals once a month.)
2. SET GOALS IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE FOR BETTER OUTCOMES
Let’s be honest. The motivation to accomplish our goals could be sparked by seeing how well our social media connections are doing in reaching their objectives. But we must maintain realism. Is it something we genuinely desire? Is that something we could actually accomplish? We can’t accomplish everything at once.
In order to avoid feeling overburdened, we must prioritize our objectives. It may be helpful to determine what you truly want or need.
PLAN OF ACTION:
Consider your individual life goals. Pick one of those as your top priority. Prior to moving on or incorporating the next one, concentrate on that objective for the first month or first quarter of the year.
3. BE ADAPTABLE
Set objectives. Plan your strategy. But be prepared to be flexible, especially when major life events occur (i.e., losing a source of income, death of a loved one, relocating to another city, etc.)
Be certain that you may resume working on your goals one day at a time even if recovering from life’s major blows may be extremely challenging and take some time.
PLAN OF ACTION:
Re-examine your top priorities and decide which ones require revision. For instance, you want to schedule monthly visits with your best pals. Since you typically meet them in person, your main expenses will be for travel and meals. Meeting the people you care about online could be more practical than doing it in person if you encounter losing your source of income.
4. SEEK ACCOUNTABILITY BUDDIES
If your resources allow, you can find an accountability partner for each life area, or you can find one for each life area.
Ask God to send you the right people in your life.
PLAN OF ACTION:
Make a list of the persons you know can assist you in achieving your goals and who you trust. Ask each person individually if they would be willing to travel with you when you call them.
May these suggestions not only help us to achieve our goals for the year, but also to draw closer to God in our hearts. Let us always keep in mind these passages from the Gospel of Mark, no matter what we do or how successful we are.
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. ‘The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
