I was just browsing through my Facebook, and I came across a post that resonated with me that I wanted to share with you today.
It states in the post that this list came from Bill Gates’ book “Business @ the Speed of Thought,” but it is nowhere to be found there. In reality, the list is a shorter version of a piece by education reformer Charles J. Sykes, author of the 1996 book, “Dumbing Down Our Kids”
They are 11 rules you will never learn in school
1. LIFE’S NOT FAIR. GET USED TO IT.
Hindi patas ang buhay, dapat masanay ka na. Stop expecting life to hand you things you think you ‘deserve’.
2. THE WORLD DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR SELF-ESTEEM.
Walang pakialam ang mundo sa iyong self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself. Start making something of yourself today. Ngayon na, kabayan.
3. YOU WILL NOT MAKE SIX-FIGURE SALARY AFTER SCHOOL.
You won’t be a vice-president with a car phone, until you earn both. Kailangan mong mag-work hard for what you get.
4. IF YOU THINK YOUR TEACHER IS TOUGH, WAIT TILL YOU GET A BOSS.
He or she does not have tenure. Wala siyang panunungkulan.
5. ‘FLIPPING BURGERS’ IS NOT BENEATH YOUR DIGNITY.
Ang iyong lolo’t lola ay may ibang salita para sa burger flipping – they called it opportunity. Swallow your pride and take that job you think is beneath you bilang isang stepping stone.
6. IF YOU MESS UP, IT IS NOT YOUR PARENT’S FAULT.
Kaya’t huwag magreklamo tungkol sa iyong mga pagkakamali, learn from them. Stop spreading the blame around and take responsibility for your failures.
7. YOUR PARENTS KNOW SOMETHING YOU DON’T.
Marahil, bago ka isinilang, your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes, and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So, bago mo iligtas ang rain forest mula sa mga parasites of your parents’ generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
8. YOUR SCHOOL MAY HAVE DONE AWAY WITH WINNERS AND LOSERS, BUT LIFE HAS NOT.
Sa ilang mga paaralan, they have abolished failing grades, at bibigyan ka ng maraming beses hangga’t gusto mo to get the right answer. This doesn’t bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
9. LIFE IS NOT DIVIDED INTO SEMESTERS.
You don’t get summers off at kakaunting employers ang interesadong tulungan kang mahanap ang iyong sarili. Do that on your own time. Once life starts, it just goes on and on. So, spend your time doing something worthwhile.
10. WHAT YOU SEE ON TELEVISION IS NOT REAL LIFE.
Sa totoong buhay, people have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs. (probably referring to “Seinfeld’ or “Friends” TV shows)
11. BE NICE TO NERDS.
Chances are you will end up working for one.
Although mahusay ang lahat ng 11 rules na yan, the top four rules that resonate with me the most are rules 1, 3, 5 & 8. Rule#1 dahil I can’t stand people who are entitled. Rule#3 dahil nangangailangan ng pagsusumikap at oras to achieve any significant result. Rule#5 dahil kailangan mong maging handa na gawin ang lahat para makarating sa iyong destinasyon. Rule#8 dahil failing is where growth happens.
Ito ang apat na rules, in particular, that helped me turn those unrealistic dreams into the reality that I live today. I seldom excelled in school academically and would usually get frowned upon by teachers because I had different aspirations than the status quo. Think about these rules kung mayroon kang malaking pangarap at sundin ang GUSTO mo!
