Si John Wooden, arguably ang greatest coach of all time, led the UCLA basketball team to 88 straight wins and seven straight national championships. Nang tanungin kung paano niyo ito ginawa, sinabi niya, “If you want to extend a winning streak, forget about it. If you want to break a losing streak, forget about it. Forget about everything except concentrating on hard work and intelligent planning.”
Wooden knew if he intelligently planned ang bawat practice and if his players gave their best effort (which he measured by how intensely they ran to open areas on the court), the wins would eventually come his way. Gaya ng sinabi ng hall of fame football coach na si Bill Walsh, “If you do your job, the score takes care of itself.”
Kung ikaw ay nasa school, nagpapatakbo ng negosyo, or working for a business, ang iyong trabaho is to maximize your time each day. And you do that by organizing tomorrow, today.
ORGANIZE TOMORROW, TODAY
“Highly successful people rarely complete everything they want to do in a given day, but they always get the most important things done each day.”
Sinabi ng mga Authors na sila Selk and Bartow,
Kapag natukoy mo ang iyong most important tasks a day in advance, you allow your brain to simulate doing your most important tasks and think of creative strategies to complete those tasks habang ikaw ay natutulog. But if you wait until the evening to prioritize, you may be too tired to make critical decisions.
Ang perpektong oras to prioritize tomorrow is today, just before eating lunch. Before you take your first bite of lunch, maglaan ng limang minute upang isulat ang three most important things na kailangan mong gawin bukas and put a star beside the one most important thing you must get done.
Sa pamamagitan ng pagsulat ng iyong “3 & 1” sa papel, you activate your brain more than if you type out your “3 & 1” on your phone – lalo pang pinapataas ang posibilidad na gagana ang iyong utaksa iyong “3 & 1” while you sleep.
How do you select the three most important things you need to do tomorrow and the most important task you must get done?
Sinabi nila Selk at Bartow na you should think like an orange farmer. Isinasaalang-alang ng isang orange farmer ang two categories of tasks bawat araw: short‐term revenue collecting and long‐term revenue cultivating (i.e., picking the fruit and taking care of the fruit trees or planting new trees for more fruit in the future). With this orange farmer analogy in mind, tanungin ang iyong sarili ng two questions when choosing your “3 & 1”:
- What can I do tomorrow to yield the best short‐term results?
- Ano ang maaari mong gawin bukas to improve your chances of winning an upcoming competition? What can you do tomorrow upang madagdagan ang iyong bent ana maaari mong magenerate from your product?
- What can I do tomorrow to give myself the most future opportunities?
- Is there a skill you could practice and refine tomorrow na magbibigay-daan s aiyo na mamukod-tangi sa iyong field and unlock new opportunities sa susunod na ilang taon? Mayroon ka bang new product idea you could prototype tomorrow and sell later next year?
Kapag naisulat mo na ang iyong tatlong pinakamahalagang gawain para bukas and put a star beside the one task you MUST get done, maglagay ng estimated completion time next to all three tasks.
Now that you’ve intelligently planned tomorrow, hindi mo kailangang mag-alala about future results – just wake up tomorrow and direct all your energy and attention to your “3 & 1.”
When you get pulled away from your “3 & 1,” perform ang mga sumusunod na drills to refocus and rebuild momentum:
100-SECOND TIMEOUT
- Magsagawa ng 15‐second centering breath (6 seconds in, hold for 2 seconds, exhale for 7 seconds).
- Madiin na ulit-ulitin ang iyong identity statement – an affirmation of three strengths you want to be known for. Example: “I am driven. I am relentless. I am serenely focused.”
- Sabihin sa iyong sarili ang tatlong “done‐wells” – three tiny things you’ve done well in the past 24 hours.
- Sabihin sa iyong sarili ang tatlong “will‐do‐wells” – three behaviors you want to execute with ease in the next 24 hours.
- Repeat your identity statement.
- Finish with another 15‐second centering breath (6 seconds in, hold for 2 seconds, exhale for 7 seconds).
ASK AND CHOP
Tanungin ang iyong sarili: “What is the most important thing I can get done next?” and then imagine “chopping off” an easy first action. Kapag tinanong mo ang iyong sarili ng isang question, you refocus your mind. And when you visualize a butcher’s knife and visualize cutting off a small piece of an important task that you could easily do, you’re more likely to act and regain momentum.
“Make each day your masterpiece”
