Your Reputation Era at Work

IT’S MORE THAN OKAY TO TALK ABOUT YOURSELF

Posted on August 25, 2025August 25, 2025

Your Reputation Era at Work:

Most of us grew up hearing that classic advice: just let your work speak for itself. Sounds nice, right? But honestly, that’s a bit old school. These days, if you keep quiet, you’re not being humble—you’re missing out. Welcome to your Reputation Era! This is the time to own your story and share it, not just for the sake of chika, but because your reputation is your most valuable asset. It’s not yabang to talk about your wins; it’s actually a must if you want to get ahead.

1. Building Trust in Your Career

Why does this matter? Simple: your career isn’t something that just happens to you. You build it, brick by brick. The trust you earn along the way is what opens doors—sometimes even the ones you didn’t know existed. It’s not about being mayabang, it’s about letting people know what you bring to the table. Think about it: would you trust someone with a big project if they can’t even share what they’ve done before? Your reputation is like your career’s GCash—super valuable, and you need to keep topping it up by showing your worth.

Trust Tips: Huwag mo nang hintayin ang annual review para magkwento ng achievements mo. Share quick updates about your projects, the problems you’ve solved, or new skills you’ve picked up—kahit sa group chat or on LinkedIn. Hindi ito pagmamayabang, it’s just letting people know you’re doing good work.

2. Building Trust with Your Colleagues

Why does this matter? We usually think trust with officemates is all about teamwork, but it’s more than that. Real trust happens when you actually know what your teammates can do—and who they are. If everyone’s just quietly doing their thing, parang secret society lang kayo. When you share your strengths, your struggles, and those ‘Eureka!’ moments, you make it easier for everyone to work together. Don’t be afraid to admit mistakes; that’s not a sign of weakness, it’s a sign you’re real and you want to grow. Mas okay na yun kaysa magpanggap na perfect ka.

Trust Tips: Ikaw na ang mauna—share a lesson from a recent fail. In meetings, volunteer for tasks that play to your strengths. And when someone asks for help, don’t just give the answer—kwento mo rin paano mo ginawa. That way, you’re not just helping, you’re also showing what you know in a chill, supportive way.

3. Building Trust in Your Industry

Why does this matter? Your reputation isn’t just for your office barkada—it goes way beyond that. In today’s world, everyone’s connected, and being known as someone with good ideas is a big deal. If you want people from other companies or even competitors to notice you, you have to show up and speak up. Waiting for people to magically see your greatness? Good luck with that. The real movers and shakers are the ones who aren’t afraid to share their thoughts and start conversations.

Trust Tips: Don’t just be a wallflower at industry events—join the conversation! Write articles, comment on news, or even start a friendly debate online. Hindi lang basta agree nang agree; share your own take. That’s how people remember you as someone with ideas, not just someone who’s always nodding along.

4. Building Trust with Your Boss

Why does this matter? A lot of us think our boss knows everything we do, but let’s be real—they’re busy with their own stuff. Hindi sila manghuhula! It’s up to you to let them know about your wins, your struggles, and how you’re growing. This isn’t being self-centered; it’s just making sure your boss has the full picture. After all, how can they fight for your promotion if you never give them the receipts?

Trust Tips: Don’t just say, “Tapos na po yung report.” Try something like, “I finished the report, and because I used a new data viz technique, we spotted a trend that could help with Q3 sales.” Be your own hype person! Set quick catch-ups with your boss so they’re always updated on what you’re up to.

Practical Takeaways

  • Be a Proactive Communicator: Huwag kang mahiyang mag-share! Tell people about your wins, lessons, and insights regularly—hindi lang kapag tinanong ka.
  • Embrace Vulnerability: Aminin mo kapag nagkamali ka or may natutunan ka. That’s how you build real trust, not by pretending to be perfect.
  • Own Your Narrative: Ikaw dapat ang bida sa kwento ng career mo. Kung hindi ikaw ang magkwento, baka iba pa ang gumawa—and baka mali pa!
  • Think Beyond Your Cubicle: Your reputation isn’t just for your current office—it’s your calling card for the whole industry.
  • Advocate for Yourself: Your boss can help you grow, but you need to give them the reasons to fight for you. Ikaw pa rin ang bida dito.

Your Reputation Era isn’t about being mayabang—it’s about being clear, confident, and in control of your story. The tahimik, humble hero? Medyo myth na yan. The future belongs to those who aren’t afraid to be seen and heard, because they’ve earned it. So, tara, kwento mo na yan!
