“If you feel anything less than ‘Wow! That would be amazing! Absolutely! Hell yeah!’ — then say ‘no.”
– Derek Sivers
Kapag ikaw ay over-committed at kalat kalat ang ginagawa mo, adopt mo ang ‘Hell yeah!’ or ‘No’ policy. Kapag gumamit ka ng ganitong diskarte sa buhay, you create space in your life sa kung ano talaga ang mahalaga and spend your time doing things that are worth doing. “Refuse almost everything. Do almost nothing. But the things you do, do them all the way.” Sabi yan ni Derek Sivers dito sa kanyang libro.
Three (3) Questions para tulungan ka to determine what is worth doing::
WHAT DO YOU HATE NOT DOING
“When we wonder what’s worth doing, we ask ourselves, ‘What do I really love?’ or ‘What makes me happy?’ That question never really goes well, does it? Maybe it’s because there’s a long list of things that make us happy, and we need to narrow it down further. So try this question instead: What do you hate not doing?”
Kapag hindi ka natutulog nang ilang araw, you realize how badly you need sleep. Think of activities (tulad ng pagtulog) that you crave if you cannot do them for an extended period of time.
Ano ang ayaw mong HINDI magawa after a few busy days? Kung walang pumapasok sa isip mo, sagutin ang dalawang tanong na ito:
- Isipin na isa kang bilanggo forced to dig ditches like a prisoner of war. What do you most miss being able to do with your free time?
- Imagine na nawalan ka ng trabaho o nagsara ang business mo. What part of your old job will you miss the most?
WHAT SCARES YOU?
“Sometimes people ask me if there’s one motto or rule of thumb I use most often. This is it: Whatever scares you, go do it. Fear is just a form of excitement, and you know you should do what excites you.”
– Derek Sivers
“Life is an ongoing process of choosing between safety (out of fear and need for defense) and risk (for the sake of progress and growth). Make the growth choice a dozen times a day.”
‐ Abraham Maslow
If a scary project has been on your mind sa loob ng ilang buwan, tulad ng starting a business that might fail or repairing a relationship; it is probably worth doing it.
Sabihin ang’Hell Yeah!’ to a scary but intriguing project and say NO to almost everything else for the time being.
WHAT IF YOU WERE SATIATED?
“You know that feeling you have after a big meal? When you’re so full that you don’t want anything more? Ever wonder what that would feel like in other parts of your life?
– Derek Sivers
What if you had so much attention and so much praise that you couldn’t possibly want any more? What would you do then? What would you stop doing?
– Derek Sivers
What if you had so much money that you couldn’t possibly want any more? What would you do then? What would you stop doing?”
– Derek Sivers
Tayong mga pinoy ay hard wired to seek attention, praise, and approval mula sa iba. Mayroon din tayong likas na pagnanais na makaipon ng mga resources because we evolved to believe that resources are scarce.
However, if we continue to crave attention and money, we will say ‘YES’ to every opportunity para kumita ng pera at makakuha ng papuri mula sa ibang tao, which results in doing things we don’t like with people we don’t like.
If we pause and generate a feeling of abundance, maaari nating pigilan ang ating knee-jerk reaction to say YES to every attention-grabbing, moneymaking opportunity and start playing the long game.
Kapag ang pera at atensyon ay hindi na ang unang bagay sa iyong isip, you will be able to step back and focus on work that is interesting and useful.
Kapag nakatuon ka sa interesting and useful work, you are excited to work; you get up early and stay up late. You push yourself harder and further higit pa kaysa sa karamihan ng mga pinoy, which often leads to a breakthrough.
Therefore, paradoxically, when you feel like you have enough money and attention, you are more likely to build something remarkable that makes money and garners attention.
